The Fred Whitton Challenge - Sunday 11th May 2008
') document.write('First run in 1999, this event, run for charity in memory of the late Fred Whitton, was the hottest yet!
') document.write('The 112 mile course starts in Coniston and takes in the major Lake District passes of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose (with a lot of lumpy stuff in between).
') document.write('With high summer type temperatures and no breeze to speak of, it made a gruelling event even more so.
') document.write('A good ride from Pat Hercberg, improving on her time from last year. Tony Johnston suffered bad cramps from Honister (as did many others).
') document.write('I think we can safely say that Allan and Glenn`s experiment on the tandem will NOT be repeated ;-) Allan suffering badly with the heat, the only positive they could draw from it being that they cleaned all the climbs.
') document.write('Obviously the heat doesn`t affect everyone, the course record was broken yet again this year with two riders, Rob Jebb and James Dobbin both recording an incredible time of 5:40:40
