MTBO Score Event (formerly Trailquest) - 7th December 2014

On Sunday 7th December some of you bimbled around the South Cumbrian Lanes chatting light heartedly about your stocks and shares and the price of fish - that is when you could hear each other over the roar of the wind and the rattle of the hailstones on your helmet.
Some of us however (well one of us) were enduring the same weather conditions and competing in an 'MTBO Score Event' formerly known as a Trailquest. This involved starting at Elterwater and plotting a route to pick up as many points at various check points as possible.

I and this sort of event have a bit of a sad history. I tend to do them Norwegian Eurovision Stylee i.e. I end up with 'nil points'. The plan was that this one would be different. No headless chicken moments with map and compass, just calm and careful map reading and careful application.
And guess what? It was! 160 points placing me 22nd out of 30. Result! And the headless chicken? It had a 30 minute outing at the start after which I realised I had left my back pack in the car and so I had to head back to the start to pick it up - I needed the drink in it.

If anybody is interested, or bored with stocks and shares or perchance does not have any stocks and shares the next event is from Gosforth on the 18th January.
You will need a mountain bike and to check out www.bmbo.org.uk

I am looking forward to it.
