HOSPICE HILL CLIMB SERIES

Fundraising...

The St Marys Hospice is an independent, charitable, voluntary body funded mainly by the generosity of the community for the community. Founded in 1989 by public subscription, the hospice provides specialised medical and nursing care to people from South Cumbria suffering from serious progressive illnesses. The hospice building is a late Victorian house with an added extension, set in tranquil and beautiful gardens at the base of Hoad monument in Ulverston.

Through the races we are helping raise funds for the Hospice and trying to raise the charities profile in the local community. This is achieved through donations and publicity.

As well as the £2 entry fee, each rider is requested to pay at least £1 into the Hospice fund for each race entered. Neither the Lakes road club or Barrow Central Wheelers make a penny from these events.

To fully explain about the fund raising, riders need to be aware of the following...
Every rider in each race has to pay a £2 levy which goes straight to the CTT (Cycling Time Trials) organisation. This is unavoidable as the races are run under CTT rules and regulations and unauthorised races are illegal on British roads. Therefore it is only any donations over the initial £2 paid that are actually going to the Hospice. I do not want anyone to feel that their money is not going where they want. Feel free to ask any questions to Howie at the events or email me through the club websites.

This year at the signing on of each race there will be a tub marked '£2 CTT' and next to it a sealed collection tin for the hospice. All donations are to go in the tin and at the end of the season the tin(s) will be handed over to the hospice. The hospice will then open and count the money, and only then will we have a proper value on the amount raised.

Added to this, every company that sponsors a specific race has offered to pay £10 into the Hospice fund.

If you feel you can contribute to the hospices fundraising efforts please get in touch. http://www.stmaryshospice.org.uk/

Also note that the Orangery cafe is open on the hospice site if you feel the need of a caffeine fix or bit of cake whilst on a long ride. The café is open 7 days a week between 10.30am and 3.30pm. It is hoped to raise additional revenue for the charity, while increasing awareness for the role St Mary's plays in the community.
